Modernization efforts are improving customer service and driver safety

Lafayette, LA, October 25th, 2016 - Real-time tracking has become an integral part of our personal life: people can track their rideshare, food, and home deliveries in real-time, but many in the transportation industry have never been able to do the same with their truckload shipments. This lack of supply chain visibility causes thousands of delays, missed appointments, and phone calls to customers and carriers - which in turn cause driver safety hazards - every day, as well as adding to overall costs.

Today, Dupré Logistics announced its modernization initiative that is increasing supply chain visibility with FourKites’ real-time tracking platform. Dupré Logistics, a Top 100 Company and leader in safety, has been using FourKites real-time tracking platform for 3 months and is already reaping significant benefits.

With a large number of long term customer relationships - most have been with Dupré for several years - improving service for internal and external customers throughout the supply chain has always been a priority. Dupré’s Vice President of Stragetic Capacity Services, Mike Weindel, discussed these game-changing customer service enhancements:

“We can share FourKites’ location data and ETA with both our shipping and receiving customers, so while we’re preventing calls and emails to our customer service team, our account team can actually use it as a sales tool for prospective customers.

Everyone here has accurate tracking information and digital logs, so there’s no calling the drivers and distracting them with ETA requests, and we can use FourKites delay notifications to quickly correct and minimize exceptions.
We’re also able to build better carrier relationships by getting billed, settled, and paying them faster than before, without the extra cost of third-party factoring.” Mike continued, “Improving these relationships is key because when carrier lanes are tight, more shippers and drivers are choosing Dupré over our competitors.”

“In researching how supply chain visibility could streamline logistics operations, we learned that FourKites could aggregate the tracking data from all of our trucks and immediately wanted to learn more.” Dupré CIO Bob Verret explained, “While there were other platforms we explored, we chose FourKites because they are at the cutting edge of technology and offer a far superior value proposition.”

Dave Walker, FourKites Chief Revenue Officer, commented on the thriving partnership, “Dupré very quickly became a FourKites’ success story: we quickly onboarded all of their trucks with ELD devices and their dashboard map was active with live loads, each with its own robust profile of shareable and reportable information. We’re looking forward to enhancing their capabilities in the future to add even more value to their supply chain.”

Dupre Logistics Give to Flood Relief

Thursday, October 20, 2016

(LAFAYETTE, LA)- In the spirit of providing an ‘Ideal Place to Work’, the Lafayette-based Dupré Logistics team of employees and their families joined to support 36 team members in need following the historic flooding throughout Louisiana in August of 2016. Individual team members donated to the Dupré Employee Flood Recovery Fund to help those impacted and the company matched every dollar put in the fund. The total raised has been distributed evenly between the team members affected.

Dupré CEO Reggie Dupré said, “With so many team members whose houses, cars, and personal possessions have been partially or totally lost, it was heartwarming to see so many not hesitating to donate their own time and money to help team members recover.” He continued, “These team members are showing what we're made of here at Dupré, great people. I'm proud to be part of this caring, generous, serving team and I thank our team for everything they do to make themselves, our team members, and our company successful.”

The 36 team members with homes throughout the Lafayette and Baton Rouge areas and the surrounding parishes saw between six inches to eight feet of water. This historic 1,000-year flooding came without warning to the state that is in the beginning of what will be a long-term recovery.

“I want to thank the entire Dupré family for their generosity and thoughtfulness and hope to someday be able to help a team member in this way,” said Curtis White, a Dupré Professional Driver, who lives in Denham Springs and saw eight feet of water in their home.

“My coworkers and I wanted to help because Dupré is family; that is what you do for family. Knowing that there is that support at work from not only the people you work with, but the company you work for means a lot,” said Dolores Benoit, Dedicated Group Administrative Assistant, who donated to the fund despite not being affected by the flooding.

Dupré, LA DOTD and local TV Station join to recognize National Driver Appreciation Week

Tuesday, September 20, 2016

On Friday, September 16th, Dupré driver trainer Flint Deemer and La. Secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development Dr. Shawn Wilson rode a stretch of highway in South Louisiana to understand and highlight the challenges of professional drivers during National Driver Appreciation Week.

Local Lafayette, La. news station KLFY’s reporter Emily Giangreco went along for part of the ride to highlight some of the challenges both drivers face and the DOTD faces when designing and maintaining roads systems.
View KLFY's Article from September 16, 2016

“We realize that everything you own, buy, sell or trade has been on the back or in our transportation system at some point,” said DOTD Secretary Dr. Shawn Wilson, “This is just an eye opening experience for a lay person, a non-truck driver, to appreciate what they do on a daily basis.”

Deemer shared the challenges of not only safely driving his truck but taking into consideration others on the road.

“You constantly have to think about that, getting in and out,” said Deemer, “There’s a lot of pre-planning with this job. People that don’t know what trucks go through to get through their day to day operations. That’s the biggest challenge.”

Ending National Truck Driver Appreciation Week with Mr. Flint, driver for Dupre. Clocked ⬆️ 4 million miles.

As South Louisiana faces a great opportunity with the planning for the I-49 corridor, Wilson says that the trucking industry will be taken into consideration.

“At the very minimum, building I-49 will benefit the trucking industry,” said Dr. Wilson “Making sure we design and build things with the right curves, with the right turning radius’ to allow trucks that are this long to be able to make a very precise move.”

After going on his ride along, Dr. Wilson said one of the main issues is non-truck drivers who are using their phones and not paying attention to their surroundings.

Commuting to work from Lafayette to Baton Rouge in a big way...on 18 wheels. I-49 & I-10.

Dupré Chief Administrative Officer Doug Place said, “We appreciate Secretary Wilson tying appreciation for America's professional drivers with the need to improve our infrastructure, reduce congestion and improve safety on our highways.” He continued, “His ride from Lafayette over the Atchafalaya bridge, through the congestion at the Mississippi River bridge and at the I-10/I-12 split shows the challenges of our current highway system.”

Dupre featured in Inbound Logistics - Chemical Logistics Article

Tuesday, August 23, 2016

The logistics around chemicals are both challenging and interesting. This recent article in Inbound Logistics is an informative read on this subject. This is a growth industry that Dupré Logistics is a participant in.

Reggie Dupré, founder and CEO of Dupré Logistics was interviewed as a part of the article:

At Dupré Logistics, the key to maintaining hazmat capacity includes a training program for drivers who currently haul petroleum or other commodities for the company. "We school drivers for anywhere from four to eight weeks," says Dupré. "Then we oversee their work in short-haul movements, to prepare them to go out on long hauls."

How We Impact the Challenge of Chemical Manufacturers

Tuesday, June 14, 2016

The movement of hazardous materials between chemical manufacturers and their intended destination is a challenging, yet necessary piece of the logistics industry. Tank trucks haul products that have a direct impact on the economy; from gasoline to agricultural products, their movement is essential to oureconomyin North America. The National Tank Truck Industry states that recent data estimates the tank truck industry hauls 2.4 billion tons of freight yearly, which equals 25.6% of all truck freight (9.6 billion tons.)

The movement of these products can present a number of challenges for the chemical manufacturer, and requires them to partner with an expert logistics company to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of product to the appropriate destination. Here at Dupre Logistics, we’ve had the pleasure of working with a large number of chemical manufacturers; through these partnerships, we’ve identified the following common challenges and essential ways to positively impact these challenges for our customers, creating a safe, cost effective and highly efficient supply chain.

Challenges for Chemical Manufacturers

Challenges exist for everyone within the trucking industry. Increases in regulations, the ongoing driver shortage and changes in the economy directly affect the movement of product from manufacturer to destination. Within the chemical industry, these challenges are felt more acutely.

  1. Safety– this is of utmost importance within the trucking industry, and especially when hauling chemicals. Incidents that include chemicals typically draw a lot of attention, and the need for a trusted, experienced logistics partner is critical for chemical manufacturers. They can ensure the safe transport of your product, and virtually eliminate the possibility of an incident within the plant. Partnering with a highly professional, experienced chemical hauler like Dupré, is imperative for the safe transport of chemical products.
  1. Capacity– at times, chemical manufacturers run into delays with production that require a dedicated carrier to work closely with the production staff to ensure trucks are available when and where the manufacturer needs them. When you partner with a carrier like Dupré, they work closely with the manufacturer’s supply chain and production employees to ensure product is being moved in a cost effective, efficient manner that can mitigate possible changes due to unavailable product or other unforeseen issues.
  1. Performance– the overall performance of the driver and logistics company reflects on the manufacturer. If drivers are rude to customers, if shipments don’t arrive on time, this presents a problem for the chemical manufacturer. Expert logistics companies, with highly trained, professional drivers, and years of experience in the chemical hauling business provide the highest and most efficient level of performance, ensuring a consistent delivery of product every time.
  1. Specialized equipment– the tank trucks and accompanying specialized equipment that is used to haul chemical is not only expensive, but requires a highly focused and well-trained driver to ensure its safety while in transit. When you work with an expert logistics company like Dupré, their knowledge of the chemical hauling industry can ensure specialized equipment is in place to ensure safety, increase driver productivity and provide the most cost-effective solution.
  1. High quality drivers– along with specialized equipment, the caliber of a tank truck driver cannot be understated. Drivers who move chemicals need to be well trained, professional and updated on any and all regulations associated with the product they are hauling. As a highly respected logistics company, Dupré has experienced minimal driver turnover and ensures all drivers are highly trained on the regulations and safety requirements of moving chemical products.
  1. Streamlined supply chain– many times, chemical manufacturers are working on an extremely tight schedule in getting their product loaded and on the road. Any little mistake, a tank truck not being washed out properly, for example, can create significant consequences and cause extensive delays within the overall supply chain. Working with an expert chemical hauler that also has supply chain management professionals streamlines the supply chain, and put systems in place to mitigate possible delays. An efficient supply chain enhances overall manufacturer performance and can decrease the overall supply chain cost structure.

The above challenges can significantly impact a chemical manufacturers bottom line and overall success in the marketplace. It’s essential to select and develop a true relationship with your logistics and supply chain partner, one who is knowledgeable about your products and process, to ensure the success of your business.

At Dupré we work closely with our chemical manufacturer clients to understand what they want to accomplish. Once we understand their goals and objectives, we work with them to develop a logistics and supply chain solution that meets their needs within the expected timeframe.

Case Study: Partnership between a Leading Water Treatment Chemicals Company and Dupré Logistics Increases Efficiency

Aleading provider of water treatment chemicals in North America has an in-house logistics division that drives customer service on the day-to-day operation of their business. Prior to partnering with Dupré, they managed their supply chain through a network of companies and owner/operators. Given the complexity of their distribution network, their supply management system lacked connectivity and the necessary efficiencies to ensure that their customers received the highest level of service in a safe and efficient manner.

After an in-depth assessment utilizing Dupré’s “Results-Based Supply Chain Management Process™,” a dedicated solution was designed to provide consistent, scalable capacity with a focus on safety and maximum asset utilization. This solution created supply chain efficiencies while enhancing service for their customers. Results include increased safety, reliability, stability, running efficiency and professionalism within their logistics system. They have strengthened customer satisfaction ratings since partnering with Dupré Logistics.

As you assess your needs as a chemical manufacturer, and require the services of safe and efficient logistics and supply chain management professionals, be sure your potential partner can positively impact the challenges that can arise while moving your product from point A to point B. Selecting an experienced, professional, forward-thinking logistics partner like Dupré can enhance your company’s performance, eliminate costs and help you become more competitive and profitable.
